  • 1.  911 for multiple appearances of same phone number

    Posted 03-31-2022 11:58 AM

We are allowing up to 5 devices to be registered with the same extension.  We cannot seem to find a vendor who can accommodate multiple devices registered at the same time with different locations.  Example--  My desk in California has a sip phone with my extension 1234 on it.  I am currently in Tennessee and logged into Workplace on my Windows computer with the same number 1234.   I call 911 from my computer and it goes to the volunteer fire department in Tennessee.  Someone walks into my office in California and dials 911, we need that to go to the California correct emergency services.  The feedback we are getting is from the 911 vendors is that they use the last registration to route the 911 call.  What is everyone else doing?  How are other companies doing to get the correct 911 information passed to the right place?

    Thanks, Rachel

Rachel, I can only speak for the Avaya IP Office platform. The system allows different routing of emergency calls based on which extension device made the emergency call.

That is done using "Location" entries in the system configuration. Each entry specifies the routing used for emergency calls in that location and each extension on the system is assigned to a particular location. There are also options to assign a location automatically based on IP address and a default location for the whole system.

Since that all varies from customer to customer, its the system maintainers role to implement and test correct routing of emergency calls. For details, refer to
