Hello Tom -
Yeah we are in the same boat here too, we tried to get this working, but banged our head against the wall enough that I have shelved this for now. It didn't seem to matter how much we fiddled with it, we would always run into a scenario that didn't work right...
I like the idea of what you all are doing with the SIP Trunk, and we may just venture that way...

James,
Is this still something you're working on? We gave up on dialing rules for a few reasons:
- They could not distinguish between a 7 digit local call and our internal 7 digit private numbering (no longer an issue)
- With our SIP Trunk carrier, we have national rates that apply anywhere we dial, so a local and a long distance call are the same cost. Seven digit dialing is essentially dead now and any remaining ten digit dialing we promote to 1+10 with digit conversion.
- calltype analysis is available to address corner cases.
My feeling about the dialing rules is that they're most effective when all users have to play by the same rules.
Would love to know what you decided to do.

Subject: Avaya Workplaces Dialing Rules
I can't seem to find a good document on how this is managed and setup, and we are testing this manually at first and the fields are pretty ambiguous. So does Avaya Workplaces Dialing Rules support the following scenarios in our Local Dialing plan:
Having 3 Area Codes that are both Local and Long Distance from us (So 10 digit dial for local, 11 digit dial for long distance)
A PBX that Spans multiple areas, so we have extensions in different LATAs throughout the state of Nebraska.
And a WIDE Range of PBX Extension Numbers (Or what Workplaces calls PBX Main Prefix)
So I am wondering if anyone else has found themselves banging their head on the wall trying to get the Dialing Rules to just "Work" for Workplaces?
It would be super helpful if Avaya would put out a document explaining in detail each one of the fields of the Dialing Rules (Found Below):
