Ted,
A phone shouldn't go to "discovering" if it was logged out somewhere else. H.323 phones should show a message saying that the phone was logged in elsewhere and that the user can either Login or Continue (continue will log the remote user out).
Discovering means that the phone is unable to establish a TCP connection to either your CLANs or CM server, and that matches what you see from your traces.
This is most likely a coincidence that this happened at the same time. Check your VLAN, IP address and server settings to make sure they didn't get touched or mangled. If this would have been at my office, the most likely thing was that the phone started beeping when it got logged out and somebody started smashing buttons until it stopped -- causing a setting to get mis-set.

Subject: IP Phone Discover Mode
Aura CM 7.1.1
I have two sites - primary and ESS.
A user (with a 9608 IP phone) who normally works at the primary site went to the secondary (ESS) site to work for a week or so. (She did not take her phone with her.) She was able to log into another phone with her extension at the secondary site. However, when she went back to the primary site, her normal phone was in Discover mode. Trace showed it was getting an IP address, but would not communicate/connect with the PBX.
A reboot did not work. After reboot, it briefly displayed the login screen, but immediately went back to Discover mode. We tried a new phone at the same jack and it came right up.
Any idea what causes this? The phone was working before she left, now it doesn't. Why?
Thanks
