Is maintenance required? We are on CM 6.3 and I am looking for any documentation that states maintenance is required. If maintenance is required, what kind is required?  Can I exclude hardware and just maintain my licenses/software? OR can I choose no maintenance? I am aware of the risk and what is involved (no access to Avaya/software etc.) without having maintenance.

I would check with your Business Partner, as long as you have a trusted relationship where they will give you honest answers. As far as I am aware, you have to have some level of maintenance to continue using the software starting with 7.x. The prior versions may be allowed to stop maintenance, but have all the caveats that you mentioned.

I have been told that if you drop all maintenance and need a patch or upgrade, you would have to buy the software from a new installation price point. I would get a confirmation that this would be the case in your instance.

Avaya is getting to the point where you are required to have maintenance.  For instance in Aura Messaging 7.0 they remove root access.  There are several commands that need to be ran to fix wmi issues but require root access.  In those cases, you are forced to contact Avaya.

In speaking with Avaya, maintenance is not required on CM 6.3. It is strongly encouraged to keep maintenance, but it is not required.

I have maintenance on my CM 6.3 systems, but it pretty bare bones since we do a lot of work on our own.
