  • 1.  Migrating Session Manager to VMWARE environment

I'm looking to migrate my 6.3.19 Session Manager servers from their Dell based platform servers to a VMWARE environment.  I'm not finding much documentation on how to do this.  Does anyone know of a reliable way to migrate the data from an existing Session Manager to a new install?  I 'm wondering if this could be done either by:

    1) Bringing the old server down, then spinning up the new virtual instance OVA with the same IP addresses as the old one and using  System Manager replication to replicate essential data to the new install.

    or

    2) Bring down the old server. Spin up the new virtual instance OVA with the same IP addresses as the old one and then use System Manager to bulk import routing XML backups done before bringing the original server down.

Option 1 essentially. Session Manager holds no real data bar a certificate and log and trace files. Trun off the Physical SM and deploy the new SM and enroll it to replace the existing one. It will then populate with the relevant data.

An alternative is to create a second SM and run side by side and migrate configuration which can be a lot of work.
