Using System Manager to backup up CM's Announcements

  • 1.  Using System Manager to backup up CM's Announcements

    Hello -

So we are starting 2021 off with small steps to start using the new 8.1.x System Manager as our main administrative platform for CM. This is a change for us, as we are still pretty ASA heavy, but with our new pathway of going over 75% SIP phones it was a necessary move.

One thing we had been doing in the past is using ASA on a VM Server, that ran 7/24, and we used the scheduling feature in ASA to do several functions, one being an Announcement Backup on our system. It's pretty slick, and other then remembering to check every few months for any added/deleted announcements in CM and redoing the Schedule to adjust for that, it was perfect.

Now that we are using SMGR, we are wanting to move away from this.. so I see SMGR has Announcement backups, and it looks like it can do the entire system at once, but my questions are this:

    1. Is anyway using SMGR for Announcement backups, and have it scheduled? Do you like it, and pitfalls we need to be made aware of?

    2. Where does the files go? I am assuming on the SMGR system, but that wouldn't be very useful for us, who sometimes have to download the .wav file and have our PR team readjust a message (Right now we have it going to a Windows server, that we have shared drives off of where we can download/manipulate the .wav files).

    3. If it's backing up to the SMGR, is there a way to break that out to a stand alone server (sFTP or something)? Or are we going to be left with some scripting to make that happen?

I ran this once, and it seemed straight forward, but then I could never find where my announcements were backup too.

    Thanks,
