  • 1.  e-Fax solutions in UCaaS environment

    Posted 02-26-2024 01:31 PM

Greetings, just a general question - our firm is moving from a traditional PBX environment to a UCaaS environ.  The chosen vendor does not have faxing as part of their solution.  We are currently using an e-Fax solution as well as the traditional fax machines.

Looking to hear thoughts and opinions on what e-Fax vendors you have great experience with, as we may look to change e-Fax vendor.  Let me know.  thanks.

    Hi Cathy,

We have been using SRFax for a while now and it has worked well. Faxes are distributed via email and the users can fax directly from the SRFax portal with their own login.

We have been migrating to the Avaya Cloud Office at some of our locations, we are using the ACO message only as a fax line as the users have the ability to fax directly from their desktop through the ACO app.

This is the link to SRfax - www.srfax.com

When we first started using them, we setup with a credit card, but they email us invoices now.

    Hope this information helps.

    Tim

I understand the challenge you are facing in finding a suitable eFax solution that integrates seamlessly with a UCaaS environment, especially when moving away from a traditional PBX setup. My organization is currently navigating a similar shift towards Avaya OneCloud UCaaS, and we have come across numerous obstacles along the way.

In our on-premises environment, we use OpenText's RightFax. Due to ongoing challenges with the project, our RightFax setup does not directly communicate with Avaya. To ensure uninterrupted service until a more robust solution can be developed and tested, Avaya implemented a temporary workaround. This method redirects inbound fax calls through CPaaS to our on-premises Ribbon SBCs. These SBCs then route the calls to RightFax, replicating the legacy flow of incoming calls from our local carriers.

We initially encountered a significant hurdle due to Avaya's lack of T.38 protocol support, which is crucial for our RightFax operations. After extensive collaboration with Avaya, they developed a tailored solution that meets our requirements. Now, each time we set up a new fax destination, we inform Avaya to ensure the redirection follows a path that supports the T.38 protocol. This custom solution, although not without its complexities, has allowed us to maintain our faxing capabilities seamlessly during our transition to UCaaS.

I hope this insight is helpful as you navigate your transition. The journey from traditional PBX to UCaaS is complex.

Thanks Robert, appreciate the feedback.  We are currently using OpenText's XMedius, have worked well in the PBX environment, but it seems they are getting trickier to maintain.
