  • 1.  Avamar virtual server backups

    Hi all,

In days of old, Avaya and other manufacturers have said they don't support products like Acronis or Avamar to be used for server backups. Now that many/most customer Avaya servers are virtualized, no backup software needs to be run on the server itself (provided it's not an SQL server), and I haven't looked into whether or not Avaya "officially" supports the use of such tools now. But from experience, even on a physical server an Acronis backup has saved my butt and got a server back online quickly, rather than loading backed-up data files to a rebuilt machine, as per Avaya's official guidance.

So to my question: Do any of you run backup software like Acronis or Avamar for your virtualized Avaya servers like CM/SM/Messaging/SBC, etc? Do you see any functional reason why it wouldn't work or be harmful in some way?

    Thanks as always!

    Chip

    Hi Chip,
We use Avamar to backup the virtual server image itself.  We do not run a client on the Avaya appliance.
