  • 1.  Anyone playing/using the B199 SIP Conference Unit?

    Posted 03-11-2021 03:16 PM

So we have gotten an Avaya B199 Conference Unit for our Lab for testing and I was looking through the guides and install manual on this, and I am wondering if what I am reading is correct about this unit.

Unlike other Avaya phone products, it appears that the only way to configure this is either on the phone directly or via the Web of the phone? Is that a correct statement? Below is what I just read from their manual:

"Configure Avaya Conference Phone B199 directly from the phone or adjust the settings through the web interface. Use the web browser of a PC connected to the same network to conduct the initial setup of the phone, its registration in the network, and settings in B199 Conference Phone. Through the web interface, you can view logs, update software, and create configuration files."

I am suspecting that might be the case because I also notice that notably missing in the 46xxsettings file is any mention/settings for B199 Conference Units. We are running the latest setting file (21 Feb 2021).

So this is a general question, has anyone deployed these? Is that statement mentioned above true, and there is no real central provisioning point? What have been your experiences/take on this unit?

Figured this topic might be of use for fellow IAUG members.

    Thanks,

    James,
Have you learned anything since your post?

    Hello Tom -

No I have not heard back from anyone, and the meetings with our Vendor has been semi helpful (Basically they pointed us back to maybe using Avaya DES to set these up with minimal action from our techs). Unfortunately I have zero experience with with DES, and it has a learning curve.

    Hi James,
I've had a look at the installation document (Feb 2021 issue) and found on page 98 they begin to discuss the configuration file for the phone.   The file is an XML file, which is completely different than what we see on other Avaya devices.  When I look at the photo of the B199 it looks suspiciously like a Polycom device.
My gut is telling me you'd do well to start with the web interface, but read up on the XML file, too because they mention that some values aren't accessible via the web interface.  The configuration file can be exported (html download to your PC page 107) and from there you can presumably edit the file and load it back into the phone.
The document discusses a provisioning server, but doesn't mention if it uses http, tftp...  ??
Conveniently, they discuss Device Enrollment Services at greater length :-)

    Good luck with this.

The B199 is a rebranded Konftel 800.  I haven't played with one but it wouldn't surprise me if the it is the same firmware too (but with the Avaya logo).
