Upgrade to v. 8.1.3 using SM for Push Notification

  • 1.  Upgrade to v. 8.1.3 using SM for Push Notification

    Posted 04-19-2021 12:10 PM
    Hello All,

Has anyone successfully gone from using v. 8.0 or 8.1 using the Web Gateway for apple Push and upgraded their System & Session Managers to v. 8.1.3 to now use Session Manager for Push Notification?

Feeling comfortable in completing this upgrade myself for CM, SM and SMGR, but not sure about how involved or tricky the programming may be to eliminate the Web Gateway and use SM for Push. I know this will involve touching the SBC's and also the AADS. Has anyone tackled this themselves or simply relied on a business partner to get this done?

    Appreciate any feedback! Thanks.

In theory, it's only a few steps :
    • Make sure all your components are upgraded, esp. ASM, SMGR and the SBC
    • Enable the Push Notification in the Session Manager Global Config
    • Import the CA Root for Avaya Cloud into Session Manager.  You can grab that from the PSN that Avaya published in regards to the feature being available.
    • Configure the application settings in SMGR.  Defaults are supposed to work
    • Configure the push notification provider.  This generates a certificate that you need to give Avaya Cloud.
    • Map your domain to your account in the Avaya Cloud, and enable the application.  You will need to copy the certificate you generated in the last step.
    • Test, and hope it works.
We've tried a few different times so far, and everything /looks/ like it should work, but in our case ASM is never actually trying to send out the push notification.  We have a ticket open with Avaya to find out why, but they said we did all the steps that should have taken place.

    Hi Nick,

Great Info...thanks! I figured you might have already attempted this. So, I do have the PSN and these steps are exactly what I was thinking but I wondered if it got more complicated once you really got into the process. I'll take a stab at it and see what happens. Let me know the outcome when Avaya gets back to you. Do you think there would have been any benefit to having a BP assist you in the process? Probably not if Avaya told you all the steps were followed correctly, right?

We're in the same boat, but have not pulled the trigger on upgrading to 8.1.3 yet. Web Gateway is working fine, so we're not going to mess with it for now. I would be perfectly happy to wait until Nick completes it and gets his ticket resolved, haha!

    Hi Chip,

These are my sentiments exactly!! "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality for SURE...and certainly eager to find out the results of Nick's ticket.

Nick, you'll have to share with us the outcome of this once it gets resolved. Thanks for the responses!

Thinking the same, -  just been too busy to upgrade.   This and the serv-observe were the two reasons I'm wanting to  upgrade

    Nick,

Have you heard anything more from Avaya regarding your ticket and why the Session Manager isn't sending the push??

I'm doing the upgrade in parts....System Manager complete, doing Session Managers tomorrow and hopefully by next week, I'll be done. I'll keep you all posted on how it turns out (fingers crossed)!!

Right now, they are pointing to a configuration issue in our ASBC-E, but I'm not convinced yet.  The engineer I've been assigned is s...l...o...w.... so it's taking a long time to get responses and move this one forward.

Good luck on your upgrade :)

Oh Wow!! I feel your pain, I've been there before with some of the engineers who drag their feet. Hopefully it will end soon. Thanks. I appreciate the well wishes.

    We'll chat soon!!

So, we finally got the ticket resolved.  SBCE 8.1.2 Patch 1 fixed the issue.   SBCE 8.1.2 Patch 2 was also just released which is supposed to improve it as well.

Great to know. We just applied the same upgrade/patch for different reasons.

@Michael Goodwin, what setup are you using where you can't Service Observe?
