  • 1.  Hotline from SIP Phones

    Posted 07-29-2020 01:56 PM
We have 96x1 series SIP phones in our environment and need to have a hotline button to 5 security phones. In an emergency such as a violent patient we need to be able to press a button on the phone and alert security without speaking to them.

We can get this working on H323 sets. We are migrating hundreds of phones off a nortel option 81 that have this feature, but we ideally need to use it with SIP phones since we use other SIP features like multiple device access.

Any ideas, even if not Avaya, are appreciated.

    thank you.

You can setup the Avaya SIP phones to display an emergency button and, from the settings file, set it to dial pretty much any number.  To ring 5 phones, have it dial a virtual extension with a coverage path to a coverage answer group.

The rub is pressing the button will activate the speaker on the phone and ring back will be heard.  You could try having the emergency button dial a group page number instead but I think there's still a tone played to let you know you're "on the air".

For emergencies, we use a Viking button activated dialer.  It's an analog device.  Press a hidden button under the desk, it dials and plays a message (about the location) to the psap when they answer.  Let me know if that's interesting and I'll dig out the model.
