In our test and repair lab - we have dedicated test equipment to test and reload SW on these media processors (MPs).  We use a G650 - connected to our IBM T41 laptop running XP Pro and a USB CD/DVD drive to load CM SW.

We have tested and loaded 100s of these MPs over the years ... but have just run into a puzzling issue.

A - We can take a tested MP (one we rebuilt BEFORE this connectivity issue started) - with new drive and CF memory card - that has a clean CM SW load on it ... we can access it via IP as we normally can after SW is loaded - telnet  - web browser to Avaya login,  and also the Augmentix config screen...

B - But - on the same tested MP - if we remove the hard drive & CF memory card - install a new drive and CF memory card - and power up as our normal procedure is - with the CD/DVD drive connected - the CD/DVD led lights start blinking as they should to start the SW install process - but we can't telnet into the unit. We tried new CD/DVD drives and new CM SW disks .... NO CHANGE!

C - all IP and security settings on the laptop have stayed unchanged ... NIC Card config is 192.11.13.5 - 255.255.255.0 and we IP into the MP at 192.11.13.6

D - we checked the G650's backplane for bent pins and even tried another G650 cabinet ...

E - We even replaced the TN8412AP SIPI board with a new sealed board

When we try to ping the MP - 192.11.13.6 ... we get these screen results ...

    PINGING 192.11.13.6

Reply from 192.11.13.6:  Destination Host Unreachable

Reply from 192.11.13.6:  Destination Host Unreachable

Reply from 192.11.13.6:  Destination Host Unreachable

    PING STATISTICS REACHING 192.11.13.6 ...

         Packets Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0

BUT - If I try to ping another IP address in that range that isn;'t connected to a device ....

    PINGING 192.11.13.7

    Request timed out

    PING STATISTICS REACHING 192.11.13.7 ...

         Packets Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4

SO - it looks like the first ping communication sees the MP's IP address  - 192.11.13.6 ... but can't connect not properly ....

Any ideas ... ??  Your help is really appreciated in figuring out this puzzling issue.

PS - We have tried (10) different "used or OOS" MPs  - putting new drives and CF memory on them ... all the same issue ... BUT - when we put a tested - rebuilt MP back in the G650 - it comes right up and we can access it via all (3) IP channels - Telnet - Browser to Avaya login & Augmentix screen) ???

Just can't connect when trying to load the CM SW for some reason.

It’s required when you use 192.11.13.5 SN Mask 255.255.255.252 for your PC LAN

and you must connect using a crossover cable between the PC and RJ45 Services Port connection

Avaya services port of any linux server, clan, ipsi, sipi, medpro, media-gateway

192.11.13.5 is the correct IP for your PC LAN properties

255.255.255.252 is the correct subnet mask for your PC LAN properties

192.11.13.6 is the correct Default Gateway for servers with virtual machines, otherwise this can be blank.

These connections will work if the Customer LAN connections are working or not working.

Using a CD/DVD for install of CM software for s8400:

upon boot you must telnet port 23 to 192.11.13.6 because ssh port 22 will not work

This should put you at the install menu for CM
