We had a web developer that set up something so you could use to search/dial from our 96xx phones. The 46xxsetting file points to a URL and some type of web application that I believe connected to AD. This is from our settings file:
SET SUBSCRIBELIST http://
<web app name>/apps/phone/subscribe.aspx
SET AMADMIN http://
<phone firmware server ip>SET WMLHOME http://
<web app name>/apps/phone/default.aspx
Hope that helps. Sorry the details are a little thin.

We follow a process that requires employees to opt in with their contact number which gets fed to active directory and made available in Outlook. Soft clients from Avaya provide LDAP(s) access to directories, enabling dial by name. We also have a web portal that allows search.
