  • 1.  Meet Me Conference screeching

I just built a meet me conference and everything is good until caller number 5.  We are testing it out at this point and callers are all internal 9408 digital phones.  As soon as the fifth caller dials in there is a loud screeching.  I comes and goes pretty consistently.  Any ideas why caller 5?

Loud screeching is often times a symptom of a feedback loop where one caller's microphone is picking up the audio of the conference and feeding it back into the mix.  Is it any 5th caller or is it always the same person?  Are the participants close to each other?  Is anybody using a speakerphone?  Could you have a bad DSP in a gateway or medpro?

I would use the SAT command status meet XXXX once you get the 4th person connected.  Save the result and then connect the 5th caller and do it again to see the before and after state of the conference.  It may give you a clue.

We have seen people do silly things like try to conference someone that is already on the call.  We've seen people try to get more ports by conferencing meet-me bridges together, which doesn' t work, unless you can do it via a trunk/did number.  Occasionally it is successful, but mostly it just generates incidents.  We've also seen a lot of problems when people use analog phones.  They connect, and for whatever reason don't think they're connected and hit the flash hook briefly and dial again.  Flashing again connects the two meet me bridge channels together and you have a feedback loop.

Good luck.  Hopefully some of this applies to your scenario.
