Monitoring VoIP Quality

    hi,

i am looking for a way to monitor voice quality. i imagine snmp traps sent from each endpoint via rtcp to a monitoring server, maybe zabbix or opennms. on a quick search i was not able to find module or an official statement, that one of the mentioned monitoring systems support rtcp.

next step: fetch information via snmp from CM. there are some interesting points in this document: https://downloads.avaya.com/css/P8/documents/101013337

BUT: on the one hand we are on releasse 6.3.12 (not the x.x.1xx part), but the delivered information should base for example on SAT-equivalent command "list measurements ip voice-stats summary jitter today". but this command is available on 6.3.12 as well, but the result is empty. Do I have to enable measurements first?

I checked "change meas-selection network-region" - all netowrk-regions we are using are configured. we are using only procr and ip-stations. what do I miss?

Has anyone of you successfully implemented an open source monitoring tool implemented, and is able to get useful information out of avaya-devices?

    regards,

    andre

If you want to measure voip quality between central site and a remote site check for

    Mean Opinion Score (MOS) metrics

    Also this document might help:

ok, mos is a way, it is the result of jitter, packet loss, etc. but how to get that information out off cm?

I dont know if CMS monitors & collect such data. It would be interested if anyone knows.

    MOS is more network related

from my point of view it is not possible to configure cdr to deliver mos-data or jitter-data...

CMS does not do anything with call quality. That is purely a function of a VoIP monitoring suite -- which is sometimes built into the network, and sometimes a 3rd party tool.

We are using VoIP Monitor (www.voipmonitor.org) and have had good success in tracking calls and using it as a troubleshooting tool. I am not sure if it has all the features you are looking for, but we have used it to help with our network and when working on issues with Avaya and our carriers.

    hi,
thanks for the hint, once i read already about it, but forgot it
meanwhile. Is it easy to implement on avaya side? website states mostly
to use packet sniffering, which i don't like because of impact to avaya
server (and in fact we don't have root rights, and it is virtual
infrastructure, which is not performing as i desire anyway). I would
prefer to have voipmonitor receiving information via rtcp - will that work?

    regards,
    andre

We use it by doing port mirroring, to keep the effects on the network to a minimum. We have it on a separate server with a connection to the data switch between the SBC and Session manager.

We are currently using CS1Ks but are about to get a lab system with all the Aura 7 components. I can let you know once we have the lab in place, but currently we are getting RTCP from the SBC, SM, and CS1K,
