    tn750, tn750b, tn750c are limited to total seconds on each board of 255.
    tn750, tn750b must be saved to individual tape, flashcard, removable media, disk
    if you unplug tn750, tn750b all announcements are lost but can be restored to if
    the correct media is available to restore from.
    tn750c has memory on the board and does not lose announcements when unplugged.
    The board can be saved for maintenance backup and restore, the same as the other
    tn750 boards. The tn750c must be erased to clean off the board.

    The G250/G350 stores announcement files in an internal announcement directory.
    The G250/G350 supports up to 256 announcement files, totalling up to 15 minutes
    of audio for announcements and music on hold. Recording, storing, and playing
    announcement files is controlled by Avaya CM.

    The G250/G350 supports:
    Secure transfer of announcement files to and from VAM using SCP
    Simple management operations for the announcement files stored in the
    announcement

    Announcement capacities and load balancing
    Understanding how Communication Manager handles annoucements helps with
    questions of capacity the load-balancing of announcement traffic. The Avaya
    S8700 Series and S8300 media servers support up to 3,000 announcements across
    the Communication Manager system. Each of as many as 10 integrated announcement
    boards (and each G700 virtual VAL source) is limited to 256 announcements.

    If you are running Communication Manager 4.0 or later, and have a S8720 system
    with increased capacities configuration, you can have up to 128 VAL boards
    (TN2501) and 250 VAL sources per system for a total of 378 announcement sources.
    VAL boards are a RTU (right to use) feature. New limit is 1024 per valboard.
    If you have a system that does not support increased capacities, the limit
    remains at 10 TN2501 VAL boards.

    All G700 Media Gateways in the system can be assigned as VAL sources, for a
    maximum of 250 G700 VAL sources in a large S8700 Series media server
    configuration also with up to 10 TN2501 VAL boards, providing an ultimate
    capacity of 260 sources for the Avaya S8700 Series servers. TN2501 has 31
    playback ports (with 60 minutes of storage capacity) and each G700 VAL
    source has 15 playback ports (with 20 minutes storage capacity). Initially each
    caller that is to hear a non-barge-in announcement on that source is connected
    to an available port until each port has one caller connected. Initially 31
    callers can be hearing an announcement from a single
    TN2501 board (15 with a G700 VAL source). The same announcement can be playing
    from multiple ports, each starting at a different time. Once all ports are busy
    playing announcements, subsequent callers that are to hear an announcement
    residing on that board/source are queued for that source.
    Communication Manager queue size over all integrated announcement
    sources is 4,000 callers (S8700 Series/S8300 media servers). When a port becomes
    available, all callers (up to 1,000) waiting in the queue for a specific
    announcement on that source are connected to the available port to hear the
    announcement play from the beginning on a first-in, first-out basis.
    At any given time you can have as many as 1,000 callers hearing the same
    announcement on a given port of a board/source, yielding a (theoretical,
    system-wide) capacity of 31,000 callers connected to a VAL board (or 15,000
    callers connected to a G700 Media Gateway virtual VAL source).
    Factor in barge-in announcements which continuously play from a single port
    (that can have as many as 1,000 callers connected at the same), and this
    provides a very, very large capacity for playing announcements.
    The measurements announcements commands can be used to monitor the system and
    help determine burst conditions, allowing for better load balancing of the
    traffic.

    Non-Volatile Storage of Announcements on VAL
    The VAL board has a RAM based file system on which the announcements are stored.
    This is where a newly recorded or FTP'd announcement resides. The VAL constantly
    checks to determine whether changes have been made to the file system (file
    added or deleted or renamed). Once a change has been detected, the VAL waits for
    5 minutes of stability. After such a stable period, the VAL backs up the RAM
    based file system to its FLASH. The FLASH version of the file system is
    non-volatile and is what is restored upon reset/reseat. If you record a new
    announcement and immediately reset the board, the announcement will be
    lost. The yellow LED blinks while a backup from RAM to FLASH occurs. All of the
    above is true regardless which (if any) of the .wav files on the board are
    administered announcements. It is just the way the board (firmware) operates.
    Note that only files with a .wav extension in the /annc directly are backed up
    to FLASH.

    Thanks for all your great information, BSHamilton!

    Is there a failsafe in the announcement boards that cuts off new announcements if it is close to full? I have a board that shows 36 seconds remaining yet will not allow any more announcements to be recorded.

    Can add the announcements to the system but when going to record the announcement I am waved off. Can go in and change announcements or listen to them but simply can't record the new ones to the board.

    S8800 CM release 5.2
    The number of announcements on the VAL board is 199.

    Have searched for any documentation but haven't found anything remotely describing my scenario.

    Thanks ahead of time to anyone who can shed some light.

    You may want to check list integrated against list directory /annc board to see if all .wav files on the board are associated with programmed announcement extensions.

    removing an announcement does not remove the .wav file

    I have a script that compares list integrated with list directory and points out all annc without .wav and all .wav without an annc extension.
