Avaya Aura Utility Server 7.1 (AUS)

Avaya has informed me that the problem (not backing up phones) with Utility Server has been fixed with a new service pace. But, they won't fix it for me.
Therefore, I am fending for myself. But, need help.

AUS is running on VMWare. I want to take a snapshot of the server before attempting the update. In Avaya's document Deploying Avaya Aura Utility Services relating to snapshots, it says, "Before performing a snapshot operation, you must stop the application that is running on the virtual machine or place the application out-of-service." However, it does not say how to do that.

Does anyone know how to stop the app and/or services, and shut down the server?

    Thanks

I am not positive this is what you need to "Place the application out-of service", but if you go to the AUS GUI -> Utilities -> Application Control -> System Database, there is an option to "Stop System Database". Under the Application Control -. TFTP Server There is an option to "Stop the TFTP Server". Both of these will leave the server "on" but take the corresponding applications offline.
I have not done an upgrade of the AUS yet, so I am not sure if that's all there is to it.

Could you also please tell us what patch they are asking you to load. I have the feeling I may be doing that soon.

Thanks for the follow-up Richard. I have fixed the issue, and I'll cover what occurred.

First off, as some of you may know, Avaya stripped away root access from its customers. (Seriously, Avaya?!?). Avaya Utility Server (AUS), according to Avaya, can only be rebooted/shut down/restarted from root. Therefore, customers cannot shut down AUS from AUS. It has to be done from the hypervisor – VMWare in my case. Or, have Avaya do it for you.

I had my server team do two things:

    1. Shut down the server and take a snapshot; restart the server – 3 minutes.
    2. Take a snapshot of the running server – 1 minute.

I, then, applied the snapshot from the running server to make sure there were no issues. There were none. Excellent, next step!

I was told by Avaya to apply the 7.1.3 service pack to fix the back-up problem. I got it from here:
    https://support.avaya.com/downloads/download-details.action?contentId=C20185411257830_1&productId=P1592&releaseId=7.1.x

The following are the steps I used to apply the update while the server was running.

    *See fine print below:

    • Using WinSCP, copy the update file to the /tmp directory
    • Run command swversion to see what version is running.
    • Note the version number (at bottom before command line - "7120005")
    • cd /tmp
    • Remove old patch - /opt/avaya/common_services/update -r 7120007
    • Verify removed - swversion
    • Install new patch - /opt/avaya/common_services/update -i util_patch_7.1.3.0.0.05.zip
    • Verfiy installation – swverion
    • Done

*Perform at your own risk. Don't blame me if you mess it up.
