Seriously, has anyone rolled out a big quantity - like hundreds - of J Series phones yet? (J179, J169, J139, J129)  I know a lot of folks are playing around with them, trying to gather some best practices, but I'd love to talk to someone who is truly using a bunch of these phones in a production environment. Thanks!

Not sure I'll be of much help, but we have probably 7-10 in production with 2-3 in call center.  I haven't had many complaints once I got everything situated in testing.  I also have 1 or 2 that are remote workers with 1 using wireless.  I've had a couple of complaints of the wireless one restarting in the middle of a call but the call stayed up.  I haven't pursued the issue though.

We're planning on rolling them out to locations where cable replacement would be difficult or too expensive.  However, our engineer that's working on the wireless configuration is having trouble with certificate requirements.   We'd love to hear your experiences with certificates and wireless infrastructure.

    Hello,

We are in the mix of replacing all our 9611's. We just configured the new upgrade scripts. We are working with the wireless cards, and I was told at ENGAGE 19' that the new AVAYA headsets will work with the wireless chips. One question however. How do you select a hidden SSID? I was also told that the wireless portion would not work with H.323, it had to be a SIP endpoint for wireless? We have a specific DID range that we use for SIP (Emergency Classroom Phones with a ringdown purpose to our Police Department). Any help would be appreciated!

    Michael,

The J129 and J179 both support the new J100 Wireless Card.  In order to use a hidden SSID, you will need to add some parameters to the 46xxsettings.txt file (or Device Services).  You will need to use the WLAN_ESSID (and other options for security, if you are using it) to join the hidden SSID.

    SET WLAN_ESSID mywlanSSID

    SET WLAN_SECURITY wpa2e

    ….

Answering another part of the question, the wireless card is only supported with SIP software.

The H.323 software for the J169/J179 is essentially H.323 9611G software so only has capabilities inherent in that software. They actually register as 9611 with CM/IPO.

We are testing the J129 w/wireless card and don't see the wireless settings in the phones menu. The following settings have been added to the 46xxsettings.txt file:

    SET WIFISTAT 1
    SET WIFI_CON_STATUS_ON_LOGOUT 1
    SET WLAN_MAX_AUTH_FAIL_RETRIES 2
    SET ENABLE_NETWORK_CONFIG_BY_USER 1
    SET WLAN_ESSID mySSID
    SET WLAN_SECURITY wpa2psk
    SET WLAN_PASSWORD secretpassword
    SET WLAN_DSCPAUD 46
    SET WLAN_DSCPSIG 24

The phone was booted with a wired connection and then switched to a PoE brick. Message on the display in No Ethernet.

    Any suggestions?

Figured out why WIFI wasn't showing up. We were running older firmware. Made the mistake of searching the Avaya site for J129 firmware instead of J100 firmware.
