    Hi,

We were trying to backup call recording using DVD +RW on witness unfortunately we were not successful. Linux was unable to mount the new DVD disk but when I tried to mount any used disk (disk that contain files) it can be mounted. Can someone advise on this please.

    Thanks,

    Jack

    Here are some points:

    1. For contactstore to archive to the DVD correctly, it must NOT be mounted in Linux.

    2. Do not leave the redhat desktop GUI running on the Linux server, this has the affect of mounting all available drives, (ie the DVD drive) and will block the contactstore archive thread from accessing the drive.

    3. You can check the Linux has the drive "registered" by this command line command:

    cat /etc/fstab

    4. Make sure that the device has the permssions of brw-rw-rw
So for example, if you have configured in contactstore optional dvd drive as /dev/cdrom, from Linux command prompy, type

    ls -l /dev/cdrom

This will show a logical link to the device and is dependant on how the DVD drive is connected, ie SCSI / USB / etc

Lets say for example it is via SCSI emulation, I would expect something like /dev/scd0

    then ls this device

    ls -l /dev/scd0

    Hi buddy,

i have gone through the instructions given by you regarding playing of DVD in witness. but it doesn't give me an option as what to do if anyone of them doens't work. in my case it works well up to point 6 but when i turn on debug level and give command tail -f----|grep Arch it doest give anything. it just stuck up there. so is it witness fault or underlying OS that is playing up.

Harry, I dont understand your question, what is it that you are trying to accomplish ?

    Hi Danny,

I have gone through the steps you have given. DVD in witness started working. But when I put in a new DVD+RW DVD in witness. it is showing empty though there is new DVD in it. All DVD's (Sony) are from same box. Morever steps you have mentioned are good but that didn't tell me if it is witness problem or Underlying Linux OS is playing up or it might be DVD player itself.
i have checked it has enough permissions, and it doest automatically format and Eject the DVD once you put in DVD into DVD player. But witness web interface still showing empty.
    Debug logs show this:
2007-07-10 12:55:42,295 [Archive thread] WARN com.swhh.cscm.engine.ArchiveThread - failed to find file to archive - continuing: /calls/801261/000/12/00/801261000120006.xml (No such file or directory)

These messages indicate that the archive process is unable to backup the xml file from the calls directory for the recordings cus it ain't there.

Was there ever a problem on your system that would account for this ?

To ask a silly question, are you putting the DVD+RW disk into the correct as configured in the Optional DVD+RW drive location in (i think this is right) server settings.

Put the logs into debug for 20 minutes.

Place a new DVD+RW disk in the correct drive.

Put the logs back into normal mode.

Post/Review the logs for just the archive thread

thanks a lot for helping and giving me some options to try. its wokring now. i have followed your instructions and i dont know what happened but it started working. Tks a ton anyway.
considering you tech guru i have 1 issue here. For backup of calls if I move a particualr wave files from there to file server and then to tape drive, i cant play back that file. i know that we can do backup on SAN or DVD but if i move particular call from calls folder to filer server and then to tapedrive why witness doesnt recognise the call for playback.
i need to play back one call urgently. i can see that file in on tapedrive and now on file server but how the hell witness recognise that file and play it back.

Actually for witness to work, you need cmapi licenses on CM. Check the available licenses on "system cutomer-options" page. You don't need dmcc on AES for witness to function unless you're using "conference" recodring.

    Danny,

I have seen you very helpful posts on the Archive on CSCM. We have a simular issue with the CSCM just showing "Unknown" as the DVD state.

If you can offer any help on this it would be appreciated.

What should the optional DVD setting be on the server page? either /dev/scd0 or /media/dvdwriter

The permissions etc as per the below seem OK and we are using the DVD+RW disks.
