S8300D Problems - cannot access and rebooting

    Greetings:

    I have two S8300Ds installed on two G430s. Let's call them 'A' and 'B.'

    A SYSTEM
A system is currently operational and during business hours it works fine. But during non-business hours, the system will reboot itself usually every 30 minutes or so. 'Restart Causes' in SMI indicates the cause is 'initialization' with an action of '4 (RELOAD).' Where can I find more info about the cause? I'm looking through the manuals but I have been successful yet.

    B SYSTEM
B system is used as our test system. Yesterday we hooked up the external DVD to the USB ports of the server card and attempted to reload system platform. The system allowed input of all setting but 'hung' during install at 99% for an hour. We rebooted the system and attempted to reboot from the system platform ISO. At this point nothing worked. We could not ping DOM0 or CDOM (due to a hashed install) and could not ping the services port (192.11.13.6) successfully.

    Any ideas?

Can maybe help with first part of your question. Look at the pdf Avaya Aura Communication Manager Server Alarms. You should be able to look up the alarm code and find out whats going on with your S8300.

UPDATE: B SYSTEM SOFTWARE INSTALL ISSUES
It appears a bad external CD/DVD unit. Once the unit was swapped, the load of system platform and solution template was fine. Sure everything has problems but you just don't figure the device which you only use sporadically.

    UPDATE: B SYSTEM RESTORE ISSUES
We've figured out we cannot restore a backup of 'A' system as 'B' system does not have the same number and type of media modules.

    UPDATE: A SYSTEM REBOOTING ISSUES
The biggest problems was there were no alarms apart from a notification of rebooting. We finally spoke with Avaya and they're pulled logs and suspect the issue is in the linux kernel. It was an issue which was fixed in 5.2.1 and I'm told does not exist in 6.2. But because we have 6.0.x we are hosed. Issue is in the hands of Tier 4 and hopefully we'll get some answers. Oddly enough, the system has NOT rebooted for 4 days now.

Thanks for adding your post. This may help others that experience the same issues. Agree that logs should tell all.

my experience is that people are still trying to use the old CD drive.. which will not run DVDs.. common and easy to understand..

    UPDATE: A SYSTEM REBOOTING ISSUES
I'm told via Tier 4 (through Tier 3) that it seems to be a miscommunication between the G430 and S8300D. The gateway monitors the 'heartbeat' given off by the server and when it senses no 'heartbeat' it will initiate a restart. The problem is we, and Avaya, cannot determine if the fault is on the server side or on the gateway side. Argh. We do have a spare server and gateway and were intending to replace until Avaya brought up updating the gateway. Many moons ago (May 2012), I had believed I updated the gateway through the utility server. Lo and behold I find out I only did part of the process and needed to move the file to the gateway and then needed to reboot and change the boot image. As of today it has been done correctly and confirmed. Now we need to wait to see how things 'bake.' I'll try and update in two weeks to give a final report.
