I am not sure of your question but basically a CLAN is the NIC of the telecom world. It connects the phone system to the network.

The TN799DP control LAN (C-LAN) interface provides TCP/IP connectivity over Ethernet or
Point to Point Protocol (PPP) to adjuncts.

    • INTUITY AUDIX
    • Distributed Communication System (DCS)
    • printers
    • call detail recording (CDR)
    • property management systems (PMS)
The C-LAN operates at 10 or 100 Mbps and full duplicated server or half duplicated server, both
of which are administrable. The C-LAN provides connectionless UDP sockets for IP solutions
support. The C-LAN also supports 500 remote sockets, with support for 4-Kbyte UDP sockets.
The C-LAN supports variable-length ping and the traceroute and netstat network testing
    commands.

Depends on who you ask, while PE has thousands of socets for use and some at Avaya will strongly recommend that you use it, my experiance has been less than optimal on duplicated servers.

I currently have it enabled, but at a very low gatekeeper priority(9), this way I can be lazy with my DHCP strings and point everything at PE. Then once a phone tries to register it will be shoved off to a CLAN with a higher (
