    CLAN Registration Sequence

    These questions are in regards to the Registration and alternate gatekeeper list and how it interacts with the Avaya 46xx IP Phones.

    I understand the RAS protocol portion and how it is used by the IP endpoint to discover and register with the Communication Manager CLANs.

    When a phone registers with a CLAN successfully, the switch sends back the IP addresses of all the C-LANs (or LSPs) in the IP Telephone’s network region. My questions:

    1. Where is this information stored? On the phone? Is this memory RAM and how big?

    2. How does this process work exactly?

    Say for example we have a set of 10 CLANs, CLAN-1, CLAN-2,..., CLAN-10 all in default network region 1. CLANs 1-5 reside in Site A, CLANs 6-10 in Site B. If site A goes down, is the registration sequence as follows:

    CLAN-1 + Wait + CLAN-2 + Wait + CLAN-3 + Wait.... + CLAN-10

    Or is the sequence as follows:

    Ping CLAN-1 + Wait + IfUp Register + IfDown Next in pool......

    Or is there some sort of random logic to the CLAN discovery process?

    3. What is the timer the phone uses before it tries to register to the next CLAN?

    4. Is this timer adjustable?

    Thanks in advance.

    Your Clan info is in the DHCP server 176 scope options and the phone settings are in the TFTP or HTTP server settings which can be programmed by changing the TFTP txt file or the http phone settings.

    Data Scope

    L2Q=1,L2QVLAN=13,PHY2VLAN= 210

    Voice Scope

    MCIPADD=10.64.28.8,10.64.28.9,10.64.28.10,MCPORT=1 719,TFTPSRVR=10.64.2.15,L2Q=1,L2QVLAN=13

    VLAN 13

    Data Scope

    L2Q=1,L2QVLAN=13,PHY2VLAN= 210

    Voice Scope

    The question is in regards to how Communications Manager handles CLAN registrations, after a phone has registered for the first time through DHCP and learned the rest of the CLANS. More specifically how does Communications Manager handles registrations if the CLAN the phone is registered to drops.
