Carrier SIP trunks provide many advantages over traditional PRIs including dynamic scaling, full geographic site redundancy, and significant cost savings. However, just as any internet data connection needs a firewall any external SIP trunk requires a Session Boarder Controller (SBC) to protect the voice circuits from attack. The purchase of Sipera added a secure, enterprise focused SBC to the Avaya UC portfolio, and with release 6.2 the SBC has been tightly integrated with Avaya’s core product line including CM, Session Manager, and other SIP based adjuncts such as messaging and contact center.

This workshop will provide an in-depth look at Avaya’s SBC product including:

    •    Capabilities overview and comparison to other industry solutions
    •    Demonstration of out of the box installation prep
    •    Step by step programming instructions for basic SIP connectivity
    •    Operations and maintenance functionality including licensing, user permissions, upgrades, backups, etc
    •    Troubleshooting tools and techniques

No previous SBC experience is required, and the workshop includes information relevant to both novice and advanced users.
